Business Continuity Planning
Business Continuity Planning (BCP) focuses on sustaining LBNL's viable research and operations functions during and after an adverse event. It includes proactive advance planning and preparation necessary to rapidly resume our research and operations following a disruption of any size or type. Such events or disruptions could be:
- Natural (earthquake, firestorm, pandemic illness)
- Local (water damage or fire in a building, etc.) or
- Technology or environmental failures (loss of electronic data, network outage, power failure, etc.)
Through Continuity Planning we are able to:
- Identify our essential functions
- Identify supporting essential systems/processes that must be sustained
- Priortize those functions
- Determine essential function resource requirements
- Develop recovery plans which ensure continuity of those essential services and functions
Our all-hazard planning approach includes Pandemic Planning. Due to the recent concerns with the H1N1 virus we want to be prepared for any widespread illness and reduced operations. Therefore, we are accelerating our Lab-wide business continuity planning, so that all division/department plans are completed by October 16, 2009.
Regardless of the particular event, our goal is to be adequately prepared so that we can continue our research and operations with minimal interruption.
